First in Math Results (as of January 30)- St. Elizabeth is ranked 3rd in the State and 2nd in the diocese for First in Math. Keep up the great work!

SES Recruitment Party and Catholic Schools Mass- Thank you to our dedicated faculty, staff, students, and parents who came together to make each of these events so special.

2012-2013 Registration- Packets were sent home today. In-house registration will be held February 6-10.

Super Bowl Pools- will go home later this week.

Spelling Bee- Congratulations to all students who participated in the spelling bee. Catholic Schools Week- January 29-February 3. Students are asked to bring hygiene items to schools to be presented at the Catholic Schools Week Mass on Friday, February 3. St. Elizabeth School is asked to bring toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, soap, deodorant, shaving cream, first aid supplies. Please bring these items to school by Tuesday, January 31.

Catholic Schools Week Activities: Monday, January 30: Students will begin Catholic Schools Week Prayer and will be working on a gift for their parents.
Tuesday, January 31: Students will have an extra recess from 11:45-12:25, during this time we are asking for Parent Volunteers to watch the children while the Teachers/Staff enjoy an Appreciation Luncheon.
Wednesday, February 1: Dress Down for Catholic Schools Week. Students are encouraged to wear Green, Red and Purple. Regular dress down rules apply. Students may wear a spirit shirt or uniform shirt in lieu of green, red or purple.
Thursday, February 2: There will be a Pep-rally for the students as well as a special treat for each of them.
Friday, February 3: Catholic Schools Week Mass in Baton Rouge, 10 of our 8th graders will be attending.

Drama Practice- Monday, January 30, Thursday, February 2 and Friday, February 3. All practices are from 2:15-4:40. Please note Practice for Tuesday, January 31 is cancelled.

SES Athletics- Boys Basketball: Monday, January 31- 5thgrade at Holy Family at 6:45. Wednesday, February 1- 8th grade at Catholic of Baton Rouge at 7:45. Thursday, February 2- at ACHS -6th grade- 6:00, 7th grade- 6:45, 8th grade- 7:45. Friday, February 3- Home- 5th vs. Redemptorist at 6:00, 6th & 7th vs. St. Louis- 6th grade-6:45, 7th grade-7:45. Basketball Practice:
8th grades will not practice this week
7th grade: Monday & Tuesday from 6:30 – 8 new gym.
6th grade: Tuesday from 6:30 – 7:30 old gym

Volleyball Practice for all girl’s (5th – 8th):
Conditioning: Monday from 4 – 5.
All girls are required to be at the Team Placement/Practice: Wednesday from 2:15 – 4:30. Please bring yourself a snack to eat after school, since practice is long. Also, please remember to bring knee pads.
Possible Practice: Thursday TBA at Wednesday’s practice.

Girls that have not had a physical this year, needs to have a physical prior to Friday, February 10th.

Mandatory Volleyball Registration Night: Friday, February 10th from 6 – 7 pm in the old gym. At least one parent/ guardian is required to be at registration. All forms (including physical form) & fees need to be submitted that night prior to receiving jersey. Forms were sent home last week. 6th & 7th graders can disregard the last page of the forms (CYO Individual Registration Form). The wrong one was sent home. You will be provided with the correct one on Registration Night. It is the same form with the correct info at the top. There will be a short meeting at the end to discuss plans for the season.

Baseball:
Please submit all forms & fees by Friday, February 3rd. There are two more forms that will be sent home when we receive from the league.

1st Friday – February, 3. Sodality uniforms must be worn.

Diocesan Quiz Bowl- February 4 at St. Aloyisus 8:00 am-1:00 pm. Family and friends are invited to attend.

Science Fair- February 6 – Projects may be set up beginning at 6:45 in the old gym and picked up by 5:30.

VOLUNTEERS for Adult Lip Sync – We are looking for volunteers to help out at the Adult Lip Sync on Saturday, February 11th. If any parents are willing to help with concession, at the door, behind the scenes, or in any way that night please contact the office. Planning for the BIG EVENT is going great, and it is sure to be an entertaining night!!!

New Family Registration – February 13-17.

Math Bee Correction- The 2nd grade winners were 1st place-Sage Rivere, 2nd Place- Peyton Barbera. Sorry about the mix up. Congratulations!

Drama Practice- Students involved in the drama play were sent home with a practice schedule on Friday. If you did not receive one please contact the office. Practices for this week are as follows: Monday January 23, Wednesday, January 25, and Thursday, January 26. All practices are until 4:30. Any children involved in basketball or volleyball will be allowed to leave early from practice. K and 1st Graders- Students in K& 1st grade are invited to join the cast of Alice in Wonderland. The boys would participate as “card soldiers” and the girls would be “flowers”. The boys will wear white and the girls will wear green. More information will be sent home to those who choose to participate concerning costumes and practices (only the week of the play on March 31) later.

Community Coffee Labels- will be shipped on January 30, 2012. If you have any that you have been holding on to, please submit them this week. Please continue to submit them through out the year as they are submitted twice each school year.

Coupons- Please continue to submit your Box Tops for Education, Community Coffee Labels, Coke Tops, Powerade Tops, Labels for Education and Surfresh labels.

Cartriges for Kids - We are still collecting any used ink cartridges. You can send these to the office at your convenience.

Super Bowl Pools- Please be sure to send back the board on time to give all families equal time to sell squares. Please contact the school if you are interested in purchasing a square. We have $10.00 and $100.00 squares available.

SES Recruitment Party – Saturday, January 28. Please forward names of prospective families so that they can be invited to attend. Parents of 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students: We need student volunteers for our Annual Recruitment Party this Saturday January 28, 2012, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The students need to be at St. Elizabeth for 9:00 a.m. and picked up by 11:15 a.m. Letters will be going home with students today, January 23rd. A permission slip is attached to the letter. Please complete the permission slip, sign and return to school. Sodality service hours will be given to Sodality members.

Catholic Schools Week Mass- Catholic Schools Week will begin Sunday, January 29th with 10:45 Mass at St. Elizabeth. Sodality members are expected to attend. 3rd and 4th grade students are invited to sing in the choir. All students and parents are encouraged to attend. Students must wear their uniform. Immediately following mass a reception will be held in the new gym. CF Industries has generously donated Jambalaya, refreshments and desserts which will be served at the reception. There will be a special prize for students who attend in uniform.

SES 2012 Distinguished Graduate - Congratulations to Suzanne Giroir, SES class of ’82, who will represent SES at the Diocesan Distinguished Graduates Dinner on Tuesday, January 31 as well as at the Catholic Schools Mass at St. Elizabeth Church on Sunday January 29. We are proud to have a graduate who remains so active in our school as a parent and school board member, dedicating much of her time to SES.

SES Athletics-Boy’s Basketball: There are a few 5th and 6th graders that still have not paid for their jerseys. Please send $25 to the office asap.
Parents – please check the work schedule that was sent home prior to the holidays. If you are scheduled to work the concession stand or the door, please get to the community center no later than half an hour prior to the first game, and help clean up after the last game. If you do not have a schedule, please contact the office.
5th grade practice on Tuesday in the new gym from 6:30 – 7:30.
7th grade practice on Wednesday from 6:30 – 7:30
6th and 8th grade will not practice this week.

Drama News- The Spring Production for the Drama club will be Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Playbooks have been ordered. The cost is $6.00. Tryouts will be January 12 until 5:00.

Scrip Orders- Regular scrip will resume Tuesday, January 10.

Aftercare- Please contact the office if you need a statement of aftercare totals paid for 2011 for income taxes.

Report Cards- January 10. Please sign and return.

SIT Committee Meeting –Postponed to the January 17 school board meeting.

The 5 & 6th grade teams will have practice from 6:30 – 8 on Tuesday in the new gym. The 7th grade team will practice on Tuesday from 6:30 – 7:30 in the old gym.
Please check the Basketball Work Schedule. If you are scheduled to work this week, please be at the community center at least 30 minutes prior to first game. Workers scheduled to work concession stand/door, be prepared to stay until after the last game to help clean up. There will be a sign in sheet located in the concession stand for workers that work the concession stand/door and a clean up checklist for after the last game. The 5th and 6th grade players are required to buy their jerseys ($25). If the jersey fees are not paid by the Friday, January 13, 2012, the player will not be allowed to play in games until the fees are paid.

LSU Dress Down – Support the Tigers on Monday, January 9th by wearing your purple and gold! Free dress down. New Playground Structure – Thanks to our SES BETA Club and H&S for providing us with such a wonderful addition to the playground! Special thanks to our dedicated SES elves who erected the structure during the holidays: Glenn Naquin, Rocky Morris, Nick Prejean, Shane Brister, Ryan Falsetta, Jeramie LeBlanc, and John Simoneaux.

Schedule Change- SES students will be dismissed at 11:05 on Tuesday, December 20. Breakfast will be served as usual, but lunch will not be served on Tuesday only.

December 19 – Class parties 1 p.m. on Monday.

December 20- Mass at 7:35, Nativity in church at 8:15, Christmas Program in the Community Center at 9:00. Students will be dismissed at 11:05. In lieu of gift exchanges among students, each class will participate in a service project of their choice.

Thanks for being so “Chair-itable!” – St. Elizabeth School would like to Thank our Grandparents and Community Partners for being so “Chair-itable” with their donations which have allowed us to purchase 7 tables, 70 chairs and 2 chair racks for our new gym/community center. Christmas Eve Mass- will be at 4:oo pm at St. Elizabeth Church. The adult choir will provide music for mass. If any student who signed up for the choir would like to sing in the adult choir please join them for practice on Wednesday evening at 5pm in church. The practice will be about 1 hour and 15 minutes. All students participating as angels or shepherds should be at church on Christmas Eve at 3:45. They will take part in the Precession and sit in a reserved section in the front of church where they will remain until their parents pick them up after Mass.

Scrip Orders- Regular scrip will resume after the Christmas Holidays.

Super Bowl Pools- In order to give extra time to sell the Super Bowl squares, a list was sent home today with families to pre-sell squares. Schedule Change- Assumption Parish Schools are dismissing 3 hours early on December 20. In order to have bus transportation, SES students will be dismissed at 11:05 on Tuesday, December 20. Breakfast will be served as usual, but lunch will not be served on Tuesday only.

Christmas Activities- please note changes. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

December 19 – Class parties have been rescheduled for 1 p.m. on Monday, December 19 because of the shortened day on Tuesday.

No Aftercare – December 20.

Volunteers Needed- We are in need of volunteers to help assemble our new playground equipment the week of December 26. If you are able to help, please call the school office at (985)369-7402.

Circle of Care Lessons- will be on January 5, 2012. Letters concerning the Circles of Care lessons were sent home today. You only have to fill out the form and send it back to school if you do not want your child to participate.

Diocesan Quiz Bowl- Congratulations to the following students who made the Diocesan Quiz Bowl Team: 5th Grade – Madelyn Fernandez, Zane Blanchard & Andre Giroir; 6th Grade – Philip Davis, Emily Pujol & Kate Thibodeaux; 7th Grade – Meg Prejean, Claire Landry & Scott Michael LeBlanc; 8th Grade – Andre Templet, Kelsey Gros & Sydnei Mabile. These students will represent St. Elizabeth School at the Diocesan Quiz Bowl which will take place on February 4, 2012.

Aftercare- All overdue aftercare must be paid by Monday, December 19 in order to clear the aftercare books. The weeks of December 12-16 and Monday, December 19 will be on one statement will which will be given out on January 4 when we return from the holidays.

Breakfast With Santa- A huge Thank You to everyone who helped make Breakfast with Santa a huge success. Everyone enjoyed a fun filled morning. Thanks again to chairpersons Yvette Boudreaux and Sandy George and all their elf helpers!!!

Distinguished Graduate- Each Year St. Elizabeth School is asked to choose one Distinguished Graduate from our many eligible S.E.S. alumni. We are proud to announce our 2011 Distinguished Graduate, Suzanne Breaux Giroir. Please join us in congratulating her on this tremendous achievement.

Beta Cake Sale – A Big Thank You to all BETA members, parents, sponsors, and community members who helped make the cake sale a great success this weekend after masses at St. Elizabeth and St. Jules. We raised $1980.00 for the Andrew A.J Frey Memorial Garden.

Pack – a – Sack - Thanks to everyone who packed their sacks with non-perishable food items. We collected approximately 3794 lbs. of food which has been donated to the St. Elizabeth Food Pantry.

World’s Finest Chocolate Candy Sale – Thanks to everyone for their support. The winners are 1st place -John Paul Brown , 2nd Place- Emma, Chloe and Chandler Prejean, Tie for 3rd Place-Cody & Sadie Jacobs and Nyoshi Smith.

LSU Football Pool Fundraiser- Pools will be send home on Tuesdays. Student of the Year Interviews- 5th grade interviews will take place on Wednesday, November 16 after school and 8th grade interviews will take place on Thursday, November 17 after school. Students will be allowed to call home when finished with their interviews.
