Accelerated Reader – AR testing begins today for the first 9 week period.  Students will receive a bookmark indicating their reading level and number of points required for each 9 week period.

AR 9 week grades – One grade equivalent to a test grade will be derived from students AR testing for each 9week period.  Students in 1st grade will follow classroom expectations.  Grade 2-3 students are expected to read and sucessfully test on 8 books during the 9 week period.  Grade 4-8 students are expected to read and sucessfully test on 2 “chapter books” per 9 week period.  The comprehension score on the AR tests are also considered when grades are determined.  The highest 8 test sores for 2nd-3rd graders and highest 2 test scores are used for 4th-8th graders when determining the AR 9 week grade if the student exceeds the minimum number of books to be read in the 9 week period.  The number of points a student achieves is not considered in this grade.

AR Field Trip Requirements -  1st graders take a yearly trip to the Assumption Parish Library for storytime and to get library cards and books as a reward for meeting their AR goal as a class.  2nd-8th graders who qualify are taken on 2 field trips yearly.  In order to qualify, students must double the point requirement for a 9 weeks in each semester.  Example:  A student needing 10 points for a 9 week period must score 20 points for the semester (1st and 2nd or 3rd and 4th 9weeks).  The points do not have to be acheived equally for each 9 weeks.  A student may score 15 pts. in the 1st 9 weeks and 5 pts. in the 2nd 9 weeks, 10 pts. each 9 weeks, or any other combination and still qualify as long as the studetns scores the 20 pts. by the end of the 2nd or 4th 9 week testing periods.
