The Year of St. Elizabeth- Even in her reduced physical and material state, Elizabeth used what few resources she had to aid others. She placed a boy suffering from dysentery in her own bed, where she nursed him until he died. Then she took in a leprous girl, placed her in her bed, and cared for her.
Math-a-thon- Books and money were due today. If you did not turn these in, please send them to school by Wednesday, March 2. Please help us reach our goal of $3000 to have a free dress down day in March.
LEAP Tutoring- Tutoring will occur after school until 3:30 on the following dates: Monday February 28 and Wednesday, March 16.
3rd Nine Weeks Exams- March 1-3- March 1- English & Social Studies; March 2- Religion & Math; March 3- Science & Reading.
Drama Play Practice- Thursday, March 3. All practices are 2:00-4:00.

SES Athletics- A special thanks to Jason & Missy Hahn who coached our 8th Grade Boys basketball team and Travis Daigle, Tommy Mabile and John Simoneaux who coached the 6th Grade Boys Basketball team. We would like to thank these volunteers who put in their time and effort to help out SES athletics.
Sodality Hours- 7th & 8th Grade Sodality members hours must be turned in by Friday, March 4, 2011.
Beta Club- Order forms for cookie dough were sent home today with all beta members.
Mardi Gras Carnival- Students in grades PreK3-7th are encouraged to dress in Mardi Gras costumes. They may compete as individuals or in groups. They are separated into two divisions with PreK3-3 competing against each other and 4th -7th competing. Admission for the event will be $2.00 for adults and $ 1.00 for children. This year’s Carnival will begin at 12:30 on Friday, March 4, 2011. Please make plans to join us for an afternoon of great fun. Younger siblings, cousins and friends are invited to dress in costume and join the fun!!!!
Mardi Gras Holidays- March 7-11.
St. Elizabeth Softball Tournament- Due to a conflict with the Men’s competitive softball schedule, the tournament has been rescheduled to April 29 & 30.
Shamrocks for MDA- SES 4-H will be sponsoring “Shamrocks for MDA”. A green shamrock can be purchased for $1.00 or a gold shamrock for $5.00 with your name written on it. These will be sold during recess until March 17. We will be decorating our school with green and gold shamrocks. Your support for the Muscular Dystrophy Association will be appreciated.
Spelling Bee- The spelling bee has been postponed to April 1 due to grades 1-3 participating in Ag Day on March 31. Sorry for the inconvenience.
MagNet- We recently received a check for MagNet for $725.88 from magazine sales. Thanks to family and friends who purchased magazines to help our school!!!!
SES Golf Tournament- Scheduled for April 9 at Bayouside Golf Course.
Adult Lip Sync- Adult Lip sync is Saturday, April 16. Parents, friends and relatives are invited to participate!!!!

The Year of St. Elizabeth-After a while, the post Brother Rodeger had filled was assumed by Master Conrad of Marburg, who belonged to no order, but was a very ascetic and a somewhat rough and very severe man. Pope Gregory IX, who wrote at times to Elizabeth, recommended her himself to the God-fearing preacher.

Shamrocks for MDA- SES 4-H will be sponsoring “Shamrocks for MDA”. A shamrock can be purchased for $1.00 or a gold shamrock for $5 with your name written on it. The Year of St. Elizabeth- With the aid of Elizabeth, the Franciscans in 1225 founded a monastery in Eisenach; BrotherRodeger, as his fellow-companion in the order, Jordanus, reports, instructed Elizabeth, to observe, according to her state of life, chastity, humility, patience, the exercise of prayer and charity. Her position prevented the attainment of the other ideal of St. Francis, voluntary and complete poverty. Various remarks by Elizabeth to her female attendants make it clear how ardently she desired the life of poverty.

Prayers and donations - Jayla Laravadain’s family home was destroyed by fire over the weekend. She is a third grader who wears size 14 clothes and size 4 shoes. Her brother wears size 6-9 month clothing, and her mother size 12 clothes and size 8 shoes. Please pray for the family as they go through this very difficult time. If you would like to donate clothing, it can be brought to the school office. If you would like to make a monetary donation, you may send to school in an envelope marked “Donation for Jayla Larvadian”.

Math-a-Thon- Once again, St. Elizabeth is taking part in the St. Jude Math-a-Thon. This is a wonderful opportunity for our school to support St. Jude Hospital and also have your child practice their math skills. Booklets and envelopes for Math-a-Thon were sent home today. Your child will have two weeks to gather donations and complete the booklet. Our school will set a goal of $3000 this year. If we reach this goal, all students will have a free dress down day in March. These are due back into school on February 28. Thanks for your support.
Serra Club Essay contest- The winners of the essay contest are T. J. Daigle 6th Grade, Kelsey Gros 7th Grade, Andre’ Templet 7th Grade. These essays will now compete at the Diocesan level.

Spelling & Math Bees- Spelling lists were distributed today for the Spelling Bee. Math and Spelling Pretest will be on Tuesday, March 1 for 1st – 4th Grades. ”Bees” for 5th -8th grades have been replaced with the Quiz Bowl. The Spelling Bee has been postponed to March 31 due to a conflict with the Mother Seton Awards luncheon.

Social Studies Fair- Thursday, February 17. Please have projects set up by 7:30 a.m. and arrange for them to be picked up that afternoon.
Snack Sale- Friday , February 18. All items are 50 cents.
AR Field Trip-February 22 for qualifying students. Permission slips were sent home today. We have 60 students who have qualified!!! We will be going by bus to Barnes and Noble at Perkins Rowe and Chuck E Cheese’s on Siegen Lane for lunch. There will be no charge for the bus. Children may bring spending money for the bookstore. Lunch will be $6.00 per student, due by Friday, February 18.

In 1956, the St. Elizabeth School mother’s Club sponsored the first Carnival celebration and contest and we have been enjoying it ever since. Students in grades Pre-K3 to 8th vote on a Royal Court of 8th graders who reign over the celebration. Voting for the Court will take place on Thursday, March 3, 2011. The rest of the students dress and compete in Mardi Gras costumes in 3 different categories: Prettiest, Funniest and Most Original. They may compete as individuals or in groups. They are all separated into 2 divisions with PreK3-3rd competing against each other and 4th -7th competing. Admission for the event will be $2.00 for adults and $1.00 for children. This year’s Carnival will begin at 12:30 on Friday, March 4, 2011. Please make plans to join us for an afternoon of great fun.

The Year of St. Elizabeth- Conrad’s (Elizabeth’s confessor and spiritual director) direction seems to have been domineering, severe and insensitive. Elizabeth provided for others to educate her children. Conrad made her dismiss for favorite ladies-in-waiting for whom he substituted two harsh companions, and would punish her with slaps in the face and blows with a rod.
The Catholic Schools Office Donation Project - The Diocesan Catholic Schools Mass has been postponed to Friday, February 11. We will continue to accept donations of the following items through Wednesday the 9th.
St. Elizabeth students are asked to donate canned soup, chili, vienna sausages, ramen noodles or peanut butter. Thanks for your generosity.
