The Year of St. Elizabeth -Did you know… In 1225, when Germany was experiencing famine, Elizabeth nearly exhausted the store of grain through distribution to the needy during her husband’s absence. On Louis’ return, the officers of his household complained to him of Elizabeth’s generosity to the poor. To this Louis replied, “As for her charities, they will bring upon us a divine blessing. We shall not want, so long as we let her relieve the poor as she does.”

The Year of St. Elizabeth: Did you know…… Louis, the husband of Elizabeth put no obstacles in the way of his wife’s charity, her simple life or her long prayers.

Accelerated Reader – Parents, please keep encouraging your children to read! Students in 1st-3rd grades are expected to read and test on 1 book per week. Students in 4th grade are to read and test on either 1 book per week, or 2 chapter books per 9 week period. Students in 5th – 8th grades are to read and test on 2 chapter books or novels per 9 week period. The Accelerated Reader grade for the 9 weeks is determined by a combination of the number of books read and the comprehension score. If students read more than the required number of books, the highest 8 for lower grades and top 2 for upper grades are used in the calculation. In order to be eligible for the AR Field Trips, students must score twice the number of points for each 9 week period by the end of the semester.
Example:
If a student needs 10 pts. per 9 week period, he needs 20pts. by the end of the semester to be eligible for the trip.
1st 9 weeks : 10 pts 2nd 9 weeks: 10 pts. Total: 20 pts.
1st 9 weeks: 0 pts. 2nd 9 weeks: 22 pts. Total: 22 pts.
1st 9 weeks: 15 pts. 2nd 9 weeks: 8 pts. Total: 23 pts.
Each of these students would be eligible to attend the trip. This system is used to give the students a greater opportunity to achieve the goal of attending the field trip.
First in Math – 3rd – 6th graders are enrolled in the First in Math Program. Please encourage you students to exercise their math skills and represent their school in competition with students throughout the country using this program.

The Year of St. Elizabeth: Did you know……. Elizabeth and her husband Louis (Ludwig) had three children and their wedded life has been called by one chronicler, ” an idyll of enthralling fondness, of mystic ardor, of almost childish happiness, the like of which I do not remember in all I have read of romance or of human experience.”
The month of November is dedicated to the departed souls. We encourage all the parents to spend a few minutes every day at home with your children praying for the departed souls from your family. Also, Nov.17th is the Feast of our patroness, St. Elizabeth of Hungary. Students will be learning more about St. Elizabeth and other saints this month.
