Third grader, Jordie Acosta, and her mother, Brandy, lost their home and possessions to a fire early on Saturday morning. Please keep them in your prayers. If you would like to donate clothing, Jordie wears size 10 clothing and size 2 shoes. Ms. Brandy wears S/M shirts, size 6 pants, and size 7 shoes. Items may be brought to her grandmother’s home at 112 Halfway Rd. off Hwy 308 near Belle Rose on Sunday, or to school beginning on Monday. Monetary donations will be accepted through the school office. Please place in an envelope labeled, “Donation for Jordie Acosta”.

Did you know….. Ludwig, Elizabeth’s husband was generous and their marriage was a happy one. His ultimate goal was the service of God, and therefore their philosophies and personal morals intertwined perfectly.
Beast Feast -Thanks to chairpersons, Matt and Tia Barbera, Alison Viator, and everyone who supported this fund raiser by working, attending, cooking, donations, or in any other way. It was a great day of fun!

Red Ribbon Week- SES will be celebrating red ribbon week from October 25-29. We have many activities planned for our students to show them the importance of staying drug free. Please see the list of activities below:
Tuesday: “Put a Cap on Drugs”- Students may bring caps to wear at recess.
Wednesday- “Sock it to Drugs”- Crazy socks can be worn with regular uniforms.
Thursday- “Team up against Drugs”- Students may wear a team jersey with uniform pants, uniform shorts or skirts/jumpers.
Home & School Harvest Festival-The Harvest Festival will begin at 11:15 for PreK & K students and 12:15 for students in 1st -8th grade, everyone is invited
Pumpkin Decorating Contest – The annual pumpkin decorating contest will be held on Friday, october 29, 2010. The contest will be prettiest, funniest and most original. All entries will be judged according to the skill level of the participants. Judging will be grouped by grades as follows:
PK-K; 1st-2nd; 3rd-4th; 5th-6th; and 7th-8th.
As always, no scary, goulish, jack-o-lanterns or monster themed pumpkins will be allowed.
SES Exchange Program: We are proud to welcome our Guatemalan Exchange student, Pilly Vasquez, to our SES. family, and we sincerely thank our SES host family, Shane & Scottie Brister and their children Hannah & Ethan Brister. They have made it possible for all of us to enjoy this cultural experience.
SES Cub Camp- In order to better serve our SES families, we are considering hosting an 8 week summer camp staffed by SES faculty during the summer of 2011. The camp would be open to all SES students ages 3 and up. A Cub Camp survey is being sent home today. Please indicate if you are interested and for what period of time. Please be as accurate as possible so that we may determine the feasibility of this program and begin planning early. Please contact the office if you have any questions.
Drama Club News- Parents in charge of each Lip Sync group please send the following information to the office tomorrow: name of group, music used, names of students involved and their grades. We must have this information to plan for the event as well as for the program. Also, remember all music must be turned in by this Friday, October 29, 2010.
St. Elizabeth School Early Learning Center-We are currently enrolling students for our PreK3 program. Registration information is available in the office for anyone who may be interested. Students may enroll on their 3rd birthday and remain in the program until they meet eligibility requirements for 4 year old PreK. The program will be staffed by a degreed teacher and a paraprofessional and operate during regular school hours.
Help Needed- In order to be ready for our new little cubs in January, we are having to do some moving and freshing up of the office building. Please contact the office if you would like to take part in this project. We are in need of painters as soon as possible. All help, ideas, and donations of time, talent and materials are welcome.
Toy Donations- Beginning in November, we will accept donations of indoor and outdoor toys, books, and other age appropriate materials that are in good condition for our new Early Learning Center. Please pass the word on to friends and relatives.
Early Childhood Teaching Position-Teacher resumes will be accepted through November 12, 2010 for the 3 year old class. A 4-year degree is required. According to requirement established by the louisiana Department of Education, applicants should meet the following criteria:
Teachers of the pre-kindergarten class shall be certified or qualified in either elementary, kindergarten, or nursery school or have earned 12 hours in child growth and development. The 12 hours in child growth and development may be earned through the College of Education or the Department/School of Family and Consumer Sciences.
Early Childhood Paraprofessional Position- Paraprofessional resumes will be accepted through November 12, 2010 for the 3 year old class.
St. Elizabeth Christmas Vigil Mass- The students of St. Elizabeth School have been invited to participate in the 6pm Vigil Christmas Mass at St. Elizabeth Church. Students in grades K to 3rd are asked to dress as angels or shepherds, and grades 4th to 8th are asked to be part of the children’s choir. It seems early to announce this, but it may take time for costumes to be made. A survey will be sent home next week. Please check your Christmas plans by next week so that we can get an accurate count. This production is not replacing our school living nativity on the last day of school before the holidays.

The Year of St. Elizabeth: Did you know….. Elizabeth was married the age of 14. Her husband, Ludwig, was as generous and kind as Elizabeth and their short marriage was a happy one.

The Year of St. Elizabeth- Did you know…… In 1216, the oldest son of the Landgrave, Hermann, who Elizabeth was to marry died; after this she was betrothed to Ludwig, the second son.
Our bucket is full!!! SES students have been focusing this year on doing good deeds for each other, being kind, and working together as a family. If students are observed performing these acts, drops are put into the class bucket and then put into the school bucket in the cafeteria each Friday. This past Friday the school bucket was filled, so the entire school was treated to ice cream sundaes after lunch today! Our goal is to emphasize these positive behaviors so that they become internalized by the students and become good habits.
Men’s Softball Tournament-The softball tournament fundraiser which was scheduled for Fall 2010 has been postponed to March 2011.
Blood Drive- We would like to thank everyone who donated blood on Monday, September 27. A total of 27 units of blood were collected which can help as many as 81 patients. Great job!!!

The Year of St. Elizabeth-Did you know……At age four, St. Elizabeth was bethrothed (engaged) to the infant son of the Landgrave of Thuringia. She was sent to live in his court for her education.
Mission Collection - There will be a mission collection this Friday, October 8 at Mass. Children can bring money during the week to put in the containers in their classrooms which will be brought to Mass on Friday. No snack sale.
St. Elizabeth School 3 year old Program - Later this month there will be an informational meeting for interested parents regarding the early learning program at SES set to begin in January of 2011. The program will be under the direction of a degreed teacher and paraprofessional and operate during regular school hours beginning at 6:45 a.m. Students will be eligible to attend beginning on their 3rd birthday and can remain in the program until they are eligible to attend the 4 year old Pre K program. Please contact the school office if you are interested in receiving more information.

National 4-H Week - The SES 4-H club is collecting dues. The dues are $5.00 and the deadline to pay dues is Friday, October 8, 2010. It must be placed in the green envelopes that have been provided for your child and clearly marked “4-H dues”. Also, National 4-H week is this week and SES will be celebrating a “green” dress down day on Wednesday, October 6, 2010. Please see the handbook for complete dress down day guidelines.

Harvest Festival Spirit Dress Down Passes – Students may use these on days when we do not have mass or other special events. They must wear a spirit shirt with jeans or uniform and school shoes.
Cold Weather Wear – Girls may not wear pants until November 1 unless the temperature is below 50 degrees. Undershirt sleeves may not extend below the shirt sleeve. Sweaters, sweatshirts, and wind breakers should be solid navy blue with the exception of articles purchased through SES. Please see SES Handbook 4.4. Dress Code for complete details.
AR Testing - Last Day to test for Accelerated Reader for the 1st nine weeks is October 8, 2010. AR testing will resume on October 15.
Parents provide transportation- October 11, 2010. St. Elizabeth School will have school on this day. Buses will not be running on this day. Aftercare will be available.
Home & School Association Update- Our first Home & School Meeting was a great success. Several goals were voted for approval. Our goals for 1/2 the cost of a new popcorn machine, new recess equipment for each classroom and the ordering of new traffic cones have already been met. We will keep you posted as additional goals are met throughout the year! Don’t forget to pay your dues if you have not already done so!
Supply Pouches- are now available. The cost is $3.00. If you would like to purchase a SES supply pouch for your child, please sent your money in a labeled envelope.
Drama Club – The St. Elizabeth School Drama Club is now collecting dues for the 2010-2011 school year. The Drama Club is open to all 6th, 7th & 8th graders. We are looking forward to a great year with Lip Sync and the Spring Play. The deadline for the $3.00 dues is Friday, October 8, 2010.
Home & School News- On Friday, October 29, the SES Home and School Association will host its annual Harvest Festival and pumpkin decorating contest. We need your help! Parent Reminders- Parents please remember to call the school office if your child is sick to let us know that they will not be at school. Also, your child(ren)’s transportation from school can be changed during the day in cases of emergency only.
