The Year of St. Elizabeth- St. Elizabeth was the third child of King Alexander II and Queen Gertrude of Hungary. She was born in the year 1211.
Blood Drive- Today 2:00 – 7:30 in the SES cafeteria.
School Pictures- Scheduled for Tuesday, September 28. Order forms were sent home last week, please return to school on Tuesday, September 28 if you have not already done so.
2nd Grade Parent Breakfast- Wednesday, September 29 beginning at 7am in the cafeteria.
Fill-a-Bucket Spirit Dress Down – Thursday, September 30. Cost: 2 drops. Students will be working on the drops in Religion class. Please help them at home if they need assistance. Students may wear a SES Spirit Shirt, jeans or uniforms, and school shoes.
Snack Sale- This Friday- all items are 50 cents.
St. Elizabeth School 3 year old Program – We are excited to announce that we have received approval to start an early learning program at SES in January of 2011!!! The program will be under the direction of a degreed teacher and paraprofessional and operate during regular school hours beginning at 6:45 a.m. Students will be eligible to attend beginning on their 3rd birthday and can remain in the program until they are eligible to attend the 4 year old Pre K program. Please contact the school office if you are interested in receiving more information.
Cafeteria Clerk -position available in the SES cafeteria. Please contact Mrs. Vicky Poche’ at 225-473-7468 if you are interested in applying for this position.
Harvest Festival Spirit Dress Down Passes – Students may use these on days when we do not have mass or other special events. They must wear a spirit shirt with jeans or uniform and school shoes.
Cold Weather Wear – Girls may not wear pants until November 1 unless the temperature is below 50 degrees. Undershirt sleeves may not extend below the shirt sleeve. Sweaters, sweatshirts,and wind breakers should be solid navy blue with the exception of articles purchased through SES. Please see SES Handbook 4.4. Dress Code for complete details.
AR Testing - Last Day to test for Accelerated Reader for the 1st nine weeks is October 8, 2010.
Parents provide transportation- October 11, 2010. St. Elizabeth School will have school on this day. Buses will not be running on this day. Aftercare will be available.
Supply Pouches- are now available. The cost is $3.00. If you would like to purchase a SES supply pouch for your child please sent your money in a labeled envelope.
4-H Club- The SES 4-H club is collecting dues starting this week. The amount of the dues is $5.00. It must be placed in the green envelopes that have been provided for your child and clearly marked “4-H dues”. Also, National 4-H week is the first week in October, therefore we will begin preparing and 4-H members are invited to stay after school on Tuesday, September 28 until 4:00pm. Those members that will be staying to help must have a written permission slip from a parent in order to be allowed to stay.
Drama Club – The St. Elizabeth School Drama Club is now collecting dues for the 2010-2011 school year. The Drama Club is open to all 6th, 7th & 8th graders. We are looking forward to a great year with Lip Sync and the Spring Play. The deadline for the $3.00 dues is Friday, October 8, 2010.
Home & School News- On Friday, October 29, the SES Home and School Association will host its annual Harvest Festival and pumpkin decorating contest. We need your help! Parent Reminders- Parents please remember to call the school office if your child is sick to let us know that they will not be at school. Also, your child(ren)’s transportation from school can only be changed during the day in cases of emergency only.
Lip Sync- Permission slips for lip sync were sent home today. Please fill out and return to school.

Harvest Festival – Many thanks to our students and parents who supported the festival in so many ways. It was wonderful to see how everyone worked together! Harvest Festival T-shirts can be ordered until Thursday September 23 and will be delivered next week.
Spirit Dress Down Day- Students who attended the Harvest Festival or sang in the choir Friday night have been issued a dress down pass which can be used between now and December 17, 2010. Spirit shirts, jeans and school shoes can be worn (see handbook for complete dress down day guidelines). Dress down pass may not be used on mass days or any other dress down days.
Book Fair- This Week September 20-24. Family night is Thursday, September 23. The book fair will be open from 2:00 until the Home and School Meeting at 6:30.

Scrip- Visa Cards are Back!!! We can purchase visa cards through our scrip program for a limited time (2% discount). They will only be available through March 2011 and must be redeemed within six months of purchase. These can be used at retailers that are not currently on our scrip plan but accept Visa cards.
Banana Split Day-was a huge success. The kids enjoyed their treat and we raised $404.00 to purchase statues of St. Elizabeth for the classrooms. Thank you to everyone who donated items for the treats and to the parents who helped serve.

Harvest Festival Dress Down Day- will be Friday, September 17,2010. Students who purchased Harvest Festival shirts can wear these shirts on Friday with jeans and school shoes. Please follow all guidelines regarding dress down days found in the handbook. Only Harvest Festival shirts can be worn on this day.
St. Elizabeth Church Harvest Festival- Sunday, September 19, 2010. Please make plans to attend. Flyers were sent home today with the schedule of events. Volunteers are needed to assist with preparations before and on the day of the festival. On Saturday, September 18, the Harvest Festival committee will be busily preparing for Sunday’s events. Please take some time to consider joining us to help prepare the site for Sunday’s festivities. Also, shift workers are needed for various booths throughout the day. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Allison Viator at 985-637-4068. Thanks in advance for your support!!
Banana Split Day - Thursday, September 16, 2010. Parents, if you are planning to bring perishable items to school on Thursday, please call the office so we can plan accordingly. Thank you to all parents who sent donations so far. The children are excited about their treat.
Car Line- Parents, please follow the car line from St. Elizabeth Street onto St. Paul Street when picking up children. To allow for bus traffic, no one should park between Family Dollar and St. Elizabeth Street.

Accelerated Reader – Students in grades 1-3 are expected to test on one book per week and those in grades 4-8 are expected to read and test on two chapter books/novels per 9 week period. St. Jude Bike-a-Thon – September 11, 2010 at OLOL Assumption Community Hospital. Entry forms were sent home last week with your child. These forms can be sent back to school if you plan on participating. Please bring any donations collected with you on the day of the race.
Mission collection - There will be Mission Collection this Friday, September 10. Boxes are kept in each classroom. Students can bring money any day of this week to put in the box. No snack sale.
St. Elizabeth School has designated the 2010-11 school year as the Year of St. Elizabeth of Hungary. Be on the lookout for various activities focusing on the patron saint of our school throughout the year.
SES Sweatshirts – Sweatshirt order forms were sent home with you children today. Sweatshirts with the SES crest can now be purchased through school.
Lip Sync – Due to a conflict with Assumption High homecoming activities, Lip Sync has been rescheduled for Friday, November 12.
Birthday Calendars – We would like to give a huge Thank You to Mrs. Vicky LeBlanc and Mrs. Jill Prejean for putting together and distributing the birthday calendars.
Yearbooks - Extra 2009-2010 yearbooks are available in the office. The cost is $30.00.
Labels, Box Tops, etc – Thank you to all who have been sending in labels and box tops. We received a check for $166.11 from Target for the Take Charge of Education Fund. Keep up the good work.
Cafeteria payments – Parents, Please write your child(ren)’s name and grade on the check when making a lunch payment.
Scrip – Scrip orders are due in the office on Tuesday mornings by 9am. They can be picked up on Fridays. Please see the order form to the right.
St. Elizabeth Church Harvest Festival – T-shirt orders are due by Wednesday September 8. Trail Run applications can also be sent to school.

Library Notes – September is fine free month at the Assumption Parish Library and National Library card sign up month. The Assumption Parish Library has also shared a few links available for students through the libray. The links are http://lalibcon.state.lib.la.us/ and http://ilovelibraries.org/librarycard . The sites can be accessed through the Assumption Parish Library or at home. If sites are accessed outside the library it will require a patron to use their Assumption Parish Library Card.
