Cold Weather Uniform Policy - Please see your handbook for complete detail, but here are some basic reminders. 

  • Girls may wear pants from November 1- March 31 and in October if the temperature falls below 50 degrees.Pants must be regular uniform dark khaki and not be jean or cargo type pants.
  • Sweaters, sweatshirts, and wind breakers must be navy blue, with the exception of cub clothing.
  •  Undershirts should not extend below the uniform shirt.  (   A long sleeve undershirt may not be worn under a short sleeve uniform shirt.)
  • Only white undershirts may be worn.

Attendance Policy – Please be reminded of the mandatory attendance policy.  According to state law, “Elementary school students shall be in attendance a minimum of 160 days a school year”.  Exceptions can be made for extraordinary circumstances only with the approval of the principal.  SES has 178 instructional days, so students may only miss 18 days of school.  Parent and doctor’s excuses allow students to make up work. but the days are still counted as days absent.

Red Ribbon Week Activities                                                                                   Tuesday- “Put a cap on drugs” – students may wear a cap at recess only    Wednesday – “Sock it to drugs” – students may wear crazy socks with uniform                                                                                                                                   Thursday - Assembly – students may wear red shirts with blue jeans or uniform pants, uniform shoes must be worn.

Harvey Rabbit Show -Wednesday, October 28 at 9 am in the gym.  Everyone is invited to attend!

Money Collection – Please use the green envelope whenever sending money to school.  This serves as your receipt.  It is best if you send a check with the purpose marked in the memo section rather than cash whenever possible.  Thanks for your cooperation.

Accreditation Survey – Please make sure that you complete the online parent survey using the code sent to you on October 14.  Make sure to return the verification form in order for your child to receive the surprise from Superintendent.

Sports Pictures and Individual Picture Retakes – Thursday, November 5 – 8 a.m.

NSF Check Policy – Parents will be notified by the office staff immediately upon the receipt of an NSF check by the school.   If office personnel can not reach the parent by phone, a certified letter will be sent.  Parents must send either cash or money order to pay for the check and fees to the office no later than three business days after notification.  After the second NSF check is received by the school the parent will be notified in writing that the school will no longer accept checks and the parent will be required to pay either in cash or by money order.  There will be a fee of $25.00 on all NSF checks.

World’s Finest Chocolate Sale -As usual, the response to the chocolates has been great.  Thanks to all families for participating with such enthusiasm!   Extra chocolates can be requested from the office for those who wish to sell more.  Please send in your request on paper with child’s name and amount needed.

Lip Sync  -  Thanks to Ms. Diane, Ms. Lisa, Ms. Tiffney, the Drama Club, students, parents, and all SES supporters for making this year a huge success!  Ric Rousseau is still accepting orders for videos of Lip Sync.   A VHS tape will be $25 and a DVD will be $30.  You may send the money in an envelope clearly marked with your child’s name, grade and lip sync video.

   Three names were omitted from the Lip Sync Program.  They were Carrie Blanchard & Brandy Bellina – 5th grade and Adley Mury - Kindergarten.    We apologize for this oversight.

Kick-Off Sunday- Thanks to everyone who attended mass and the reception on Sunday.  The choir, altar servers, commentators, and ushers all represented our school well.  Your continued prayers and support will help us to realize the gym that our children deserve.

Harvest Festival -  The Home & School Association’s annual Harvest Festival will be held this Friday, October 30th.  Festivities will begin at 11:15 for Pre-K and Kindergarten students and continue for all other students at 12:15 p.m.  Pumpkins for the pumpkin decorating contest should be dropped off  between 6:45 a.m. and 7:20 a.m.  Don’t forget to include your name and grade with your entry.

Beast Feast – Reminder Beast Feast Saturday, Nov. 7th.  LSU/Alabama game (game time 2″30 p.m.) at St. Elizabeth School.   Gates open at 10 a.m. $15.00/Adults (Age 12 & up) $5.00/Children (under 12)  All You Can Eat – All Day Long; Cheerleader Clinc and punt, pass & kick contest will begin at 11:00 a.m.

Accreditation Survey – Parents, please complete the online survey by October 30 according to the directions on the letter you received on last Wednesday and return the validation sheet in order for your child to receive the surprise from superintendent, Dr. Melanie Verges.  If you do not have computer access, please contact the office to make arrangements to take the survey at school.

Lip Sync  -Friday, October 23 at 7:00 pm. Participants are to be here for 6:00 sharp for pictures in Ms. Lisa’s room.  Admission will be $3.00 for adults & $2.00 for children not in Lip Sync.  Food will be served at 6 p.m.  Parents are needed to help at concession stand.  As in the past, Ric Rousseau will be here to video.  A VHS tape will be $25 and a DVD will be $30.  You may send the money in an envelope clearly marked with your child’s name, grade and lip sync video. We are asking for volunteers to help out in the concession stand.  Please contact the school if you are able to help.

World’s Finest Chocolate Sale beginning October 19- Students will be bringing home chocolates today.  Extra chocolates can be requested from the office for those who wish to sell more.  Please send in your request on paper with child’s name and amount needed.

Mag Net Program – In conjunction with the candy sale, SES is again participating in the Mag Net program for magazine sales.  Last year we earned $2,228.62 through this program.  For each booklet returned, the student recieves 3 prizes and the school receives $5.  Thanks for your continued support.

3rd grade parent breakfast – Wednesday, October 21 beginning at 7 am. 

Report cards issued – Thursday, October 22 – Please sign the envelope and return to school on Friday.

Home & School News - Meeting on  Wednesday, October 21, 2009, from 6:30 to 7:30 in the cafeteria.  Please make plans to attend.

We are asking parents to be at S.E.S. for 6:15 for a short Child Protection Parent Training session – “Understanding Bullying”.  This session will be in the computer lab prior to your Home & School meeting. 

Child Protection – Letters were sent home today with each child reference to a “Circle of Care” lesson plan  for SES students that is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 11th.  The “Circle of Care” lesson plan for your child’s grade level may be reviewed at www.diobr.org under the Documents/Child Protection links.  You need only sign and return this form if you do not want your child to participate in the safety lesson.  Please return form by Nov. 2, 2009.

Harvest Festival – Reminder – our annual Harvest Festival and pumpkin decorating contest will be next Friday, Oct. 30th. Harvest Festival will begin at 11:15 with Pre-K and Kn.  Upper grades will go around 12:30.  We are in need of volunteers to make this happen.  If you are interested in helping, especially the day of the event, please contact Vicky LeBlanc at (985) 513-2086.  As a reminder for the pumpkin decorating contest, jack-o-lanterns or scary pumpkins are not allowed.  We are asking students to bring their pumpkins to the gym prior to 8 a.m.  Judging will begin at 8.

Exam Schedule - Wednesday – English, Spelling, Social Studies

                                         Thursday – Math, Religion

                                          Friday- Reading, Science

Parents are to provide Transportation Wednesday , October 14 for the afternoon only  - busses will run in the morning.   We will have aftercare.  St. Elizabeth will have a full day of school.  Dismissal will be 2:05 p.m. as usual.

Accreditation Surveys – Parent surveys will be sent home with the oldest child in each family on Wednesday, October 14.  Please take the time to complete the survey.  Anyone without computer access is asked to contact the school office to arrange to take the survey here.

Lip Sync Practice – Thanks to everyone for being respectful in their use of the gym for Lip Sync practices this weekend.  The gym will be open again next weekend.  Classes will follow the same schedule as this past weekend.  Any changes must be handled between the classes involved.

School Sponsered After-school Lip Sync Practice -Students who are participating in Lip Sync will have after-school practice on Tuesday, October 20 and Thursday, October 22 until 4 pm.  Students may be sent to after-care when they are finished practicing.  Please send a note indicating such if you wish to have your child attend after-care.

Home & School News – The Home & School meeting scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 15 has been postponed due to exams.  The meeting will instead be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2009, from 6:30 to 7:30 in the cafeteria.  Thank you to all who came out to help finalize plans for our Annual Harvest Festival.  Flyers will be sent home this week with the oldest child with details about the event, including rules for our pumpkin decorating contest.  There will also be a sign up sheet for those who are interested in helping.

Guatemalan Exchange Program- We are proud to announce that this year we will be receiving four students to join our 6th, 7th and 8th grades classes as part of our Guatemalan Exchange Program.  Students will arrive on Saturday, October 17th, and will return in December.  The students will reside with four of our S.E.S. families and take part in all academic and cultural events.  We are proud and excited about our visitors and wish to extend a very special “thank you” to the S.E.S. families who have so generously agreed to share their homes and families.  They  have made possible a rich cultural experience for us all.

The Guatemalan students and their S.E.S. families are:

    1) Lara Barreto (6th grade) will reside with Chantelle & Keith Gros and their children Kelsi, Mallory & Lindsey

    2) Ricardo Blanco (6th grade) will reside with Tonya & Billy Clark and their children Braxton & Zach

     3) Juan Diego (7th grade) will reside with Donna & Marty Landry and their children Tucker, Claire & Camille

     4) Maria Josse’ Majo (8th grade) will reside with Jill & Nicholas Prejean and their children Emma & Margaret

The Blood Center – extends sincere thanks to all who participated in the SES blood drive.  22 units were collected to hlep as many as 66 patients.  Ms. Dusty & Ms. Dawn’s Pre-K class won a treat for having the most donors.  Great job Pre-K!!

Pre-K & Kn. Room Mothers & Fathers - All parents are asked to participate during the year.

2009-2010 B-Team – Chelsea Daigle, Tionne Jacobs, Jacquelyn James, Hunter Daigle, Tucker Landry, Logan Sanchez, Kelsey Gros, Connor Ourso, Andre’ Templet, Brandy Bellina, Travis Daigle & Claire Landry.  The purpose of this group is to continually protect our SES students from being bullied.

School Calendars -School calendar for months of October and November were sent home today with the oldest child. Correction on November calendar:  Nov. 11th – should be program (Veterans Day) at 9:15 a.m.

Home & School News – Our annual Harvest Festival and pumpkin decorating contest are quickly approaching.  We are in need of volunteers to make this day happen.  If you are interested in helping, especially the day of the event, please contact Vicky LeBlanc at (985) 513-2086.  Please consider helping make this day special for the children!  Official rules for the pumpkin decorating contest to follow.  As a reminder, jack-o-lanterns or scary pumpkins are not allowed.

Lip Sync – Practice schedules for gym: Saturday-Oct. 10 & 17, 2009 & Sunday, Oct. 11 & 18, 2009

Saturday: 9 – 10 a.m.-1st grade

                    10:00-11 a.m.-5th grade (boys)

                    1:00-2 p.m.-6th grade

                   2:00-3 p.m.-3rd grade

 Sunday:  1:00- 2 p.m.-7th grade

                   2:00-3 p.m.-Kindergarten

Reminder - Groups are not allowed to use the curtains or the sound system for practices.  Also, be mindful of starting and ending your practices at scheduled times.

We need volunteers to help out at the concession stands for Lip Sync on Friday, Oct. 23rd.  Please contact the school office or Ms. Jill Prejeant at 225-257-0117 if you are able to help out that night.

Mission Collection - at mass this Friday.  There will be no snack sale that day.
